Problem to be solved:

Heavily corroded steel covers at the sewage treatment plant causing accidents

Resources applied:

Isophthalic composite gratings

Scope of work:

Delivery of materials and installation

Industry:

Water and sewer installation

Date of completion:

October 2019

Summary:

Corrosion of gratings in municipal sewage treatment plants is a common issue and considered normal by some. It is not uncommon for accidents to occur as a result of a corroded platform collapsing under a worker. That was the case here. The grating at the valve was so rusted that it collapsed under the person standing on it during performing maintenance activities. Fortunately, the result was only scratches and minor injuries. However, we must remember that the consequences could have been much more serious. In order to increase the safety of employees, we replaced the corroded grating with a completely corrosion-resistant composite isophthalic grating.
